There are few things more American than a good story shared among friends.
Maybe it’s around a campfire after a day outdoors. Maybe it’s on a front porch as the sun goes down. And sometimes, it’s over a glass of bourbon.
Last week, that uniquely American tradition came to life in a special way.
Thanks to the generosity of 13th Colony Distillery and Star Liquors, a group of 100% disabled veterans participated in a “Bottle Your Own” experience benefiting 4WarVets, an organization dedicated to helping combat veterans find healing, camaraderie, and purpose through the outdoors.
At first glance, it may seem like an event centered around bourbon. But spend a few minutes with the veterans in attendance, and you quickly realize it was about something much deeper.
It was about connection.
It was about fellowship.
And it was about honoring those who have given so much to our country.

America’s Native Spirit
Bourbon is often called America’s native spirit.
Its story began on the frontier in the late 1700s, when settlers in Kentucky discovered that the corn they were growing could be transformed into something uniquely their own.
Like so many great American stories, bourbon was born from ingenuity, hard work, and a willingness to create something better from what was available.
Over the centuries, bourbon has become woven into the fabric of American culture. It has been shared during celebrations, milestones, reunions, and countless conversations among family and friends.
And perhaps nowhere is that spirit of community more meaningful than among our nation’s veterans.
Healing Happens Together
For many veterans, especially those carrying the visible and invisible wounds of war, the transition home can be difficult.
The mission of 4WarVets is simple but powerful: create opportunities for veterans to reconnect through the outdoors and through each other.
Hunting trips.
Fishing excursions.
Campfires.
Conversations.
Shared experiences with people who understand.
Because healing often begins with something as simple as knowing you’re not alone.
That’s what made last week’s event so special.
The “Bottle Your Own” experience wasn’t simply about filling a bottle with exceptional bourbon. It was about creating memories, building friendships, and celebrating the service and sacrifice of the men and women who wore our nation’s uniform.
Each bottle became more than a keepsake.
It became a reminder.
A reminder that there are communities and organizations willing to stand beside our veterans long after their service ends.
A Toast to Service
As America prepares to celebrate its 250th birthday, stories like this remind us what our country is really about.
Freedom.
Community.
Generosity.
And taking care of one another.
The story of American bourbon and the story of our veterans share something important in common.
Both are rooted in resilience.
Both are built on tradition.
And both remind us that some of life’s greatest moments are the ones shared together.
So here’s a toast:
To the veterans who served.
To the organizations like 4WarVets that continue to serve them.
To the partners like 13th Colony Distillery and Star Liquors for making experiences like this possible.
And to the enduring American tradition of gathering together, sharing stories, and never forgetting those who have sacrificed for our freedom.
Cheers to our veterans.
And cheers to America.
